Tranexamic acid is a synthetic derivative of the amino acid lysine that has gained significant attention in the skincare industry for its skin-brightening and anti-inflammatory properties. Originally used in medicine to control excessive bleeding, this versatile compound has demonstrated remarkable efficacy in addressing various dermatological concerns, particularly hyperpigmentation and melasma.

The ingredient works by inhibiting melanin production through multiple mechanisms. It interferes with the interaction between keratinocytes and melanocytes, reducing melanin synthesis. Additionally, tranexamic acid inhibits plasmin, an enzyme that plays a role in melanin production and inflammation.
