TOLUENE-2,5-DIAMINE

Description

TOLUENE-2,5-DIAMINE, also known as p-Toluenediamine or PTD, is a potent hair dye ingredient widely used in permanent hair coloring products. This aromatic diamine compound acts as a primary intermediate in oxidative hair dyes, playing a crucial role in the color development process. When combined with an oxidizing agent, typically hydrogen peroxide, Toluene-2,5-diamine undergoes a chemical reaction that produces the desired hair color.

This ingredient is particularly effective in covering gray hair and creating dark shades, ranging from brown to black. Its small molecular size allows for efficient penetration into the hair shaft, ensuring long-lasting color results. Toluene-2,5-diamine is often preferred over its isomer, p-Phenylenediamine (PPD), due to its lower allergenic potential, making it a suitable alternative for individuals with PPD sensitivities.

While Toluene-2,5-diamine is generally considered safe when used as directed, it may cause skin irritation or allergic reactions in some individuals. As with all hair dye ingredients, a patch test is recommended before use to assess individual sensitivity. Proper ventilation during application is advised to minimize inhalation exposure.
