TERT-BUTYL DIMETHYL ACETOPHENONE

Description

TERT-BUTYL DIMETHYL ACETOPHENONE, also known as TBDMA, is a synthetic organic compound used in skincare formulations as a photostabilizer. This colorless to pale yellow liquid functions primarily to protect light-sensitive ingredients in cosmetic products, particularly sunscreens and anti-aging formulas. TBDMA works by absorbing UV radiation and dissipating it as heat, preventing the degradation of other active ingredients and enhancing the overall stability of the product.

In sunscreen formulations, TBDMA is often paired with avobenzone, a popular UVA filter, to improve its photostability and extend the product's effectiveness. This ingredient is particularly valuable in broad-spectrum sunscreens, helping to maintain their protective properties for longer periods. TBDMA's molecular structure allows it to efficiently absorb both UVA and UVB radiation, contributing to its versatility in sun protection products.

Typically used at concentrations between 0.1% to 1%, TBDMA is considered safe for topical application and is approved for use in cosmetics by regulatory bodies worldwide. Its low potential for skin irritation and ability to enhance the performance of other active ingredients make it a valuable component in advanced skincare formulations.
