TALLOWAMIDE DEA

Description

Tallowamide DEA, or Tallow Diethanolamide, is a synthetic surfactant and emulsifying agent commonly used in personal care and cosmetic products. Derived from animal-based tallow and diethanolamine, this ingredient functions as a foam booster, viscosity enhancer, and emulsion stabilizer in various formulations.

In skincare and haircare applications, Tallowamide DEA helps create rich, creamy lathers and improves the overall texture of products. It aids in the dispersion of oils and other hydrophobic substances in water-based formulations, enhancing the stability and shelf-life of cosmetics. The ingredient also contributes to the conditioning properties of hair and skin care products, leaving a smooth feel on the skin and hair.

However, Tallowamide DEA has faced scrutiny due to potential contamination with nitrosamines, which are known carcinogens. As a result, its use has been restricted in some markets, and many formulators have sought alternative ingredients. Additionally, its animal-derived nature makes it unsuitable for vegan product lines. When used in cosmetics, it is typically found in concentrations ranging from 1% to 5%, depending on the specific formulation and desired effects.
