T-Butyl alcohol, also known as 2-methyl-2-propanol or tert-butanol, is a tertiary alcohol with the molecular formula (CH₃)₃COH. This colorless, flammable liquid with a camphor-like odor is widely used in skincare and cosmetic formulations due to its versatile properties.

In skincare, t-butyl alcohol primarily functions as a solvent and viscosity-decreasing agent. It aids in dissolving other ingredients and helps to create smoother, more easily spreadable product textures. This ingredient also exhibits mild antimicrobial properties, which can contribute to product preservation and stability.
