STEARETH-100

Description

Steareth-100 is a versatile synthetic emulsifier and surfactant commonly used in cosmetic and personal care formulations. This non-ionic compound is derived from ethoxylated stearyl alcohol, with an average of 100 ethylene oxide units per molecule. Its high hydrophilic-lipophilic balance (HLB) value makes it particularly effective in stabilizing oil-in-water emulsions and enhancing the solubility of various ingredients.

In skincare products, Steareth-100 functions as an emollient and thickening agent, contributing to improved texture and spreadability. Its ability to form stable emulsions helps prevent separation of oil and water phases, ensuring consistent product performance. This ingredient also aids in the even distribution of active compounds throughout formulations.

Steareth-100 is generally well-tolerated by most skin types and is considered low in irritation potential. It can enhance the penetration of other ingredients into the skin, potentially improving the efficacy of active components. While primarily used in leave-on products like creams and lotions, it can also be found in cleansers and hair care items. As with all ethoxylated compounds, Steareth-100 should be used judiciously in formulations to minimize the risk of contamination with trace amounts of 1,4-dioxane, a potential carcinogen.
