SORBITAN OLEATE

Description

Sorbitan oleate is a versatile emulsifier and surfactant widely used in skincare formulations. Derived from sorbitol and oleic acid, this ingredient plays a crucial role in stabilizing oil-in-water emulsions, allowing for the seamless blending of water-based and oil-based components in various skincare products.

With its HLB (Hydrophilic-Lipophilic Balance) value ranging from 4.3 to 4.7, sorbitan oleate is particularly effective in creating stable emulsions for creams, lotions, and serums. It aids in the even distribution of active ingredients throughout the formulation, ensuring consistent product performance.

Sorbitan oleate also functions as a mild surfactant, helping to cleanse the skin without causing excessive dryness or irritation. This property makes it suitable for use in gentle cleansing products and makeup removers. Additionally, it can act as a co-emulsifier, enhancing the stability and texture of formulations when used in combination with other emulsifying agents.

While generally well-tolerated, sorbitan oleate may cause sensitivity in some individuals with very reactive skin. As with any skincare ingredient, patch testing is recommended for those with known sensitivities.
