Description

Sodium silicate, also known as water glass or liquid glass, is a versatile inorganic compound with significant applications in skincare and cosmetic formulations. This alkaline substance is composed of sodium oxide and silica, typically existing as a viscous liquid or solid with a high pH value.

In skincare products, sodium silicate functions primarily as a buffering agent and pH adjuster, helping to maintain the stability and effectiveness of formulations. It also serves as a corrosion inhibitor, protecting metal packaging from degradation. The ingredient's ability to form a thin, protective film on the skin makes it valuable in certain leave-on products.
