SODIUM MYRETH SULFATE

Description

Sodium Myreth Sulfate is a widely used surfactant in personal care products, particularly in shampoos, body washes, and facial cleansers. This anionic surfactant is derived from coconut oil and ethoxylated myristyl alcohol, making it milder than its counterpart, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. Its primary function is to create foam and remove dirt, oil, and other impurities from the skin and hair.

The ingredient's molecular structure allows it to effectively emulsify oils and suspend them in water, facilitating their removal during rinsing. Sodium Myreth Sulfate typically has a larger molecular size due to ethoxylation, which reduces its potential for skin irritation compared to shorter-chain sulfates. This characteristic makes it suitable for use in products designed for sensitive skin.

In formulations, Sodium Myreth Sulfate is often combined with other surfactants to create a balanced cleansing system. It performs well in hard water and contributes to the overall stability of product formulations. While effective at cleansing, it may still cause dryness in some individuals, particularly those with very dry or sensitive skin. As with all surfactants, its concentration in products should be carefully considered to maintain skin barrier function while providing adequate cleansing.
