SODIUM LAURETH-8 SULFATE

Description

Sodium Laureth-8 Sulfate is a widely used anionic surfactant in personal care and cosmetic products. This synthetic ingredient is derived from lauryl alcohol, which undergoes ethoxylation and sulfation processes. The "8" in its name refers to the average number of ethylene oxide units added during ethoxylation.

As a surfactant, Sodium Laureth-8 Sulfate effectively reduces surface tension between water and oils, allowing for efficient cleansing and foam generation. It is milder on the skin compared to its counterpart, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, due to its higher ethoxylation level. This characteristic makes it suitable for use in a variety of skincare and haircare formulations, including facial cleansers, body washes, and shampoos.

Sodium Laureth-8 Sulfate exhibits excellent detergency and emulsifying properties, helping to remove dirt, oil, and other impurities from the skin and hair. It also aids in the dispersion of other ingredients within formulations. While generally well-tolerated, individuals with sensitive skin may experience mild irritation. As with all surfactants, prolonged use can potentially disrupt the skin's natural barrier function, so it is often combined with emollients and humectants in skincare products to mitigate any drying effects.
