SODIUM LAURETH-40 SULFATE

Description

Sodium Laureth-40 Sulfate is a high-foaming surfactant widely used in personal care and cosmetic products. This synthetic ingredient is derived from lauryl alcohol, which is ethoxylated and then sulfated to create a mild, yet effective cleansing agent. The "40" in its name refers to the average number of ethylene oxide units added during the ethoxylation process, resulting in a larger molecule with enhanced water solubility and gentler cleansing properties compared to its shorter-chain counterparts.

This surfactant is valued for its ability to produce rich, stable foam while effectively removing dirt, oil, and other impurities from skin and hair. Its large molecular size reduces its potential for skin irritation, making it suitable for use in a variety of formulations, including facial cleansers, body washes, and shampoos. Sodium Laureth-40 Sulfate also exhibits good compatibility with hard water and functions well in both acidic and alkaline environments.

While it is generally considered safe for use in cosmetic products, individuals with sensitive skin should perform patch tests before regular use. As with all surfactants, prolonged exposure may potentially lead to mild skin dryness in some users.
