Description

Sodium iodide is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula NaI, composed of sodium and iodine. In skincare formulations, it serves as a multifunctional ingredient with antimicrobial and antioxidant properties. This water-soluble salt is known for its ability to enhance the penetration of other active ingredients, potentially improving their efficacy.

As an antimicrobial agent, sodium iodide helps preserve cosmetic products and protect the skin from harmful microorganisms. Its antioxidant properties contribute to neutralizing free radicals, which may help combat signs of premature aging. In some formulations, sodium iodide is used as a source of iodine, which can support thyroid function when absorbed through the skin.
