SODIUM DECYLBENZENESULFONATE

Description

Sodium Decylbenzenesulfonate is a versatile anionic surfactant widely used in skincare and personal care products. This synthetic compound is derived from decylbenzene and sulfuric acid, followed by neutralization with sodium hydroxide. Its chemical structure consists of a hydrophilic sulfonate group attached to a hydrophobic alkyl benzene chain, providing excellent cleansing and emulsifying properties.

In skincare formulations, Sodium Decylbenzenesulfonate functions primarily as a cleansing agent, effectively removing dirt, oil, and other impurities from the skin. It produces a rich, stable foam that enhances the sensory experience of cleansing products. This ingredient is particularly effective in hard water conditions, maintaining its performance where other surfactants may falter.

While highly efficient, Sodium Decylbenzenesulfonate can be potentially irritating to sensitive skin due to its strong cleansing action. Formulators often combine it with milder surfactants to balance efficacy and gentleness. It is biodegradable and has low toxicity, making it an environmentally acceptable choice in many applications. The ingredient is commonly found in facial cleansers, body washes, shampoos, and other personal care products where thorough cleansing is desired.
