SILVER BOROSILICATE

Description

Silver borosilicate is an innovative ingredient in skincare formulations, combining the antimicrobial properties of silver with the stability and versatility of borosilicate glass. This synthetic material consists of silver particles embedded within a borosilicate glass matrix, offering a controlled release of silver ions over time.

The primary benefit of silver borosilicate lies in its broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity, effective against bacteria, fungi, and certain viruses. This makes it particularly useful in products designed for acne-prone or sensitive skin, as well as in formulations aimed at maintaining skin hygiene. The borosilicate glass component provides a stable delivery system, ensuring a gradual and sustained release of silver ions, which prolongs the antimicrobial effect without causing skin irritation.

In skincare formulations, silver borosilicate is typically used at low concentrations, ranging from 0.1% to 1%. It can be incorporated into various product types, including cleansers, toners, serums, and creams. The ingredient is generally well-tolerated and compatible with most other skincare actives. However, as with any silver-based product, prolonged use at high concentrations may lead to argyria, a rare condition causing blue-gray discoloration of the skin.
