Description

Butylparaben is a widely used synthetic preservative in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. This compound belongs to the paraben family and is characterized by its antimicrobial properties, effectively inhibiting the growth of bacteria and fungi in various formulations. Chemically, butylparaben is an ester of p-hydroxybenzoic acid with a butyl group attached.

In skincare and personal care products, butylparaben typically appears in concentrations ranging from 0.01% to 0.4%. Its primary function is to extend the shelf life of products by preventing microbial contamination. Butylparaben is particularly effective against gram-positive bacteria and certain molds.
