XANTHINE

Description

Xanthine is a purine base compound naturally occurring in the human body and various plants. In skincare formulations, it serves as a precursor to caffeine and theophylline, both of which have demonstrated benefits for the skin. Xanthine and its derivatives exhibit antioxidant properties, helping to neutralize free radicals and protect skin cells from oxidative stress.

This ingredient has shown potential in improving microcirculation when applied topically, which can enhance the overall appearance of the skin by promoting a more even tone and reducing puffiness. Xanthine derivatives have also been studied for their ability to inhibit phosphodiesterase enzymes, potentially leading to increased cellular energy and improved skin metabolism.

In skincare products, xanthine is often used in eye creams and anti-aging formulations due to its potential to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It may also aid in improving skin firmness and elasticity. While generally well-tolerated, some individuals may experience mild irritation or sensitivity to xanthine-based products. As with any active ingredient, it is advisable to perform a patch test before incorporating xanthine-containing products into a skincare routine.
