TALL OIL STEROL

Description

Tall oil sterol is a naturally derived ingredient obtained from the distillation of crude tall oil, a byproduct of wood pulp manufacturing. This bioactive compound is primarily composed of phytosterols, including beta-sitosterol, campesterol, and stigmasterol. Known for its skin-conditioning and emollient properties, tall oil sterol has gained traction in the cosmetics and skincare industry.

The ingredient's molecular structure closely resembles that of cholesterol, allowing it to integrate seamlessly into the skin's lipid barrier. This similarity enables tall oil sterol to enhance moisture retention and improve skin elasticity. Its occlusive properties create a protective layer on the skin's surface, reducing transepidermal water loss and promoting hydration.

Tall oil sterol also exhibits anti-inflammatory and antioxidant characteristics, potentially aiding in soothing irritated skin and combating free radical damage. Its ability to mimic the skin's natural lipids makes it particularly beneficial for dry, sensitive, or mature skin types. In formulations, tall oil sterol is often used in concentrations ranging from 0.1% to 5%, depending on the desired effect and product type.
