SUCRALOSE

Description

Sucralose is a non-nutritive artificial sweetener widely used in food products and, more recently, in skincare formulations. This chlorinated sugar derivative is approximately 600 times sweeter than sucrose and provides a calorie-free alternative in various applications. In skincare, sucralose serves multiple functions beyond its sweetening properties.

As a humectant, sucralose helps attract and retain moisture in the skin, potentially improving hydration and reducing transepidermal water loss. Its molecular structure allows it to penetrate the stratum corneum, enhancing its moisturizing effects. Sucralose also exhibits mild preservative properties, contributing to the stability and shelf life of skincare products.

Research suggests that sucralose may have antioxidant capabilities, potentially offering protection against free radical damage. Additionally, its sweetening effect can mask unpleasant odors or tastes in formulations, improving product palatability and user experience.

While generally considered safe for topical use, some individuals may experience sensitivity to sucralose. As with any ingredient, patch testing is recommended before widespread application.
