Description

Spironolactone is a potent oral medication primarily used in dermatology for the treatment of hormonal acne in women. Originally developed as a diuretic and blood pressure medication, it has gained significant traction in skincare due to its anti-androgenic properties. Spironolactone works by blocking androgen receptors and inhibiting the production of testosterone, effectively reducing sebum production and minimizing acne breakouts.

This prescription medication is particularly effective for adult women experiencing persistent, cystic acne along the jawline, chin, and lower cheeks. It is typically prescribed in doses ranging from 50 to 200 mg daily, with effects often becoming noticeable after 3-6 months of consistent use.
