Description

Sorbic acid is a potent preservative widely used in cosmetics and personal care products to inhibit the growth of molds, yeasts, and fungi. This organic compound, derived from berries of the rowan tree or synthesized in laboratories, is a white, crystalline solid with the chemical formula C6H8O2. Its efficacy as a preservative is most pronounced in acidic environments with a pH below 6.5.

In skincare formulations, sorbic acid serves multiple purposes beyond preservation.
