QUATERNIUM-90

Description

Quaternium-90 is a cationic conditioning agent widely used in hair care and skincare formulations. This quaternary ammonium compound belongs to the family of silicone quats, combining the properties of silicones and traditional quaternary ammonium compounds. Its unique structure allows it to provide excellent conditioning and detangling effects while imparting a smooth, silky feel to hair and skin.

In hair care products, Quaternium-90 forms a thin, protective film on the hair shaft, reducing friction between strands and improving combability. It also helps to control static electricity and frizz, making it particularly beneficial for dry or damaged hair. In skincare formulations, it acts as an emollient and skin conditioning agent, enhancing the product's overall feel and performance.

Quaternium-90 is compatible with a wide range of ingredients and performs well in various pH environments. It is typically used at concentrations between 0.5% to 3% in leave-on products and up to 5% in rinse-off formulations. While generally considered safe for cosmetic use, some individuals may experience sensitivity to quaternary ammonium compounds. As with any ingredient, patch testing is recommended for those with sensitive skin or allergies.
