      QUATERNIUM-60
Description
Quaternium-60 is a cationic conditioning agent widely used in the cosmetic and personal care industry. This quaternary ammonium compound is primarily employed in hair care products, particularly conditioners and leave-in treatments, due to its excellent ability to improve hair manageability and texture.
The ingredient functions by depositing a thin, positively charged film on the hair shaft, which helps to reduce static electricity, enhance shine, and facilitate detangling. Quaternium-60 is especially effective on damaged or chemically treated hair, as it can temporarily seal the cuticle and provide a protective barrier against environmental stressors.
In skincare formulations, Quaternium-60 acts as an emollient and skin conditioning agent, helping to soften and smooth the skin's surface. It also exhibits mild antimicrobial properties, which can contribute to the preservation of cosmetic products.
Quaternium-60 is generally well-tolerated by most individuals and is considered safe for use in cosmetic products when formulated at appropriate concentrations. However, as with any ingredient, some people may experience sensitivity or allergic reactions, particularly those with compromised skin barriers or a history of contact dermatitis.
