Quaternium-15 is a preservative widely used in personal care products and cosmetics to prevent microbial growth. This synthetic quaternary ammonium compound functions as an antimicrobial agent, effectively inhibiting the proliferation of bacteria and fungi in formulations. Its chemical structure allows it to release small amounts of formaldehyde over time, contributing to its preservative efficacy.

Typically incorporated at concentrations between 0.05% to 0.2%, Quaternium-15 is particularly effective in water-based products such as shampoos, lotions, and creams. It demonstrates broad-spectrum activity against various microorganisms, including gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, as well as certain fungi species.
