PROPYL OCTANOATE

Description

Propyl octanoate is a versatile ester compound commonly used in skincare and cosmetic formulations. This clear, colorless liquid is derived from the esterification of propyl alcohol and octanoic acid, resulting in a lightweight, non-greasy emollient. With a molecular formula of C11H22O2, propyl octanoate exhibits excellent skin compatibility and spreadability.

In skincare products, propyl octanoate functions primarily as an emollient and skin-conditioning agent. It helps to soften and smooth the skin's surface, improving texture and reducing the appearance of fine lines. The ingredient's low viscosity allows for easy application and quick absorption, making it ideal for leave-on formulations such as serums, lotions, and creams.

Propyl octanoate also acts as a solvent, helping to dissolve and disperse other ingredients within a formulation. This property enhances the overall stability and efficacy of skincare products. Additionally, it can contribute to the sensory appeal of formulations by imparting a silky, non-tacky feel upon application.

While generally well-tolerated, as with any skincare ingredient, individual sensitivities may occur. Propyl octanoate is typically used in concentrations ranging from 0.1% to 5% in final formulations.
