Description

PPG-51, also known as Polypropylene Glycol-51, is a synthetic polymer used in various skincare and haircare formulations. This versatile ingredient functions primarily as an emollient and humectant, helping to moisturize and condition both skin and hair. Its molecular structure allows it to form a protective film on the surface, reducing transepidermal water loss and improving overall hydration.

In skincare products, PPG-51 enhances texture and spreadability, contributing to a smooth, non-greasy feel upon application. It aids in the even distribution of active ingredients and can improve the stability of formulations. For haircare, it helps to detangle and add shine to strands without weighing them down.

PPG-51 is particularly beneficial in leave-on products such as lotions, serums, and hair styling products. Its low molecular weight allows for better penetration into the skin and hair shaft, providing lasting moisturization. While generally well-tolerated, it may not be suitable for those with extremely sensitive skin or propylene glycol allergies.
