POTASSIUM PHENYLBENZIMIDAZOLE SULFONATE

Description

Potassium Phenylbenzimidazole Sulfonate is a water-soluble organic compound primarily used as a UV filter in sunscreen formulations and other skincare products. This synthetic ingredient belongs to the benzimidazole family and is known for its excellent photostability and broad-spectrum UV protection, particularly against UVB rays.

The compound's molecular structure allows it to effectively absorb and dissipate harmful UV radiation, helping to prevent skin damage, premature aging, and reduce the risk of skin cancer. Its water-soluble nature makes it an ideal choice for lightweight, non-greasy sunscreen formulations and daily moisturizers with SPF.

Potassium Phenylbenzimidazole Sulfonate is approved for use in sunscreens by regulatory bodies worldwide, including the FDA and European Commission. It is typically used in concentrations up to 4% in leave-on products. This ingredient is often combined with other UV filters to achieve higher SPF ratings and more comprehensive protection against both UVA and UVB rays.

While generally well-tolerated, some individuals may experience mild skin irritation. As with any active sunscreen ingredient, patch testing is recommended for those with sensitive skin or a history of allergic reactions to skincare products.
