Ponceau SX, also known as Acid Red 112 or C.I. 27195, is a synthetic red azo dye primarily used in cosmetic and personal care products. This water-soluble colorant is derived from coal tar and has a distinct bright red hue. While it is approved for use in certain countries, including the United States, its application in cosmetics is limited due to potential sensitization concerns.

In haircare formulations, Ponceau SX can be found in temporary hair dyes and color-depositing products, providing a vibrant red tint to the hair shaft.
