POLYVINYLFORMAMIDE

Description

Polyvinylformamide (PVFA) is a versatile synthetic polymer gaining traction in skincare and haircare formulations. This water-soluble compound is characterized by its high molecular weight and excellent film-forming properties. PVFA is derived from the polymerization of N-vinylformamide monomers, resulting in a linear chain structure with amide functional groups.

In skincare applications, PVFA acts as a powerful humectant and moisturizer, attracting and retaining water to enhance skin hydration. Its film-forming ability creates a protective barrier on the skin, reducing transepidermal water loss and improving overall skin texture. PVFA also exhibits good compatibility with other cosmetic ingredients, making it a versatile addition to various formulations.

For haircare products, PVFA provides conditioning and styling benefits. It forms a lightweight, flexible film on hair strands, improving manageability and reducing frizz without weighing down the hair. PVFA's substantivity to hair allows for prolonged effects, even after rinsing.

Safety studies have shown PVFA to be non-irritating and well-tolerated by most skin types. Its stability across a wide pH range and resistance to hydrolysis contribute to its effectiveness in diverse formulations.
