POLYQUATERNIUM-109

Description

Polyquaternium-109 is a versatile cationic polymer widely used in haircare formulations. This synthetic ingredient belongs to the polyquaternium family, known for its conditioning and film-forming properties. Its unique structure consists of a quaternary ammonium compound with a high molecular weight, which allows it to effectively adhere to hair strands.

In hair care products, Polyquaternium-109 functions as a conditioning agent, providing excellent detangling and smoothing effects. It forms a thin, protective film on the hair surface, reducing friction between strands and improving combability. This ingredient is particularly effective in leave-in conditioners and styling products, as it enhances manageability without weighing hair down.

Polyquaternium-109 also exhibits anti-static properties, helping to control flyaways and frizz. Its substantivity to hair allows for long-lasting effects, even after rinsing. Additionally, this polymer can improve the deposition of other beneficial ingredients in hair care formulations.

Due to its compatibility with various surfactants and its stability across a wide pH range, Polyquaternium-109 is a valuable ingredient in shampoos, conditioners, and styling products. It is especially useful in formulations designed for damaged or chemically treated hair.
