Description

Polyoxymethylene urea, also known as dimethylol urea or DMU, is a versatile synthetic compound widely used in skincare and cosmetic formulations. This ingredient functions primarily as a preservative and formaldehyde donor, helping to extend the shelf life of products by inhibiting microbial growth.

The molecule consists of a urea backbone with attached methylol groups, giving it unique properties that contribute to its effectiveness in skincare applications. When incorporated into formulations, polyoxymethylene urea slowly releases small amounts of formaldehyde, which acts as a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent.
