POLYLYSINE HBR

Description

Polylysine HBr, or poly-L-lysine hydrobromide, is a synthetic cationic polypeptide with remarkable antimicrobial properties, making it a valuable ingredient in skincare formulations. This water-soluble compound consists of repeating units of the amino acid lysine, linked by peptide bonds. Its positively charged nature allows it to interact with negatively charged microbial cell membranes, disrupting their integrity and inhibiting microbial growth.

In skincare products, polylysine HBr serves as a preservative and antimicrobial agent, helping to extend shelf life and protect against bacterial contamination. Its efficacy against a broad spectrum of microorganisms, including gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, as well as certain fungi, makes it particularly useful in leave-on formulations and products designed for acne-prone skin.

Polylysine HBr is typically used at low concentrations, ranging from 0.1% to 0.3%, depending on the formulation requirements. It is compatible with a wide range of cosmetic ingredients and remains stable across various pH levels. This versatility, combined with its low toxicity profile and biodegradability, makes polylysine HBr an attractive alternative to traditional preservatives in modern skincare formulations.
