POLYGLYCERIN-40

Description

Polyglycerin-40 is a high molecular weight polymer derived from glycerin, functioning as a versatile humectant and emollient in skincare formulations. This synthetic ingredient is composed of approximately 40 glycerin units bonded together, resulting in a clear, viscous liquid with exceptional moisture-binding properties.

As a potent humectant, Polyglycerin-40 attracts and retains water from the environment and deeper skin layers, helping to maintain optimal hydration levels in the stratum corneum. Its large molecular size prevents it from penetrating deep into the skin, allowing it to form a protective film on the surface that reduces transepidermal water loss.

In skincare products, Polyglycerin-40 imparts a smooth, non-greasy feel and can enhance the spreadability of formulations. It is particularly beneficial in leave-on products such as moisturizers, serums, and masks, where long-lasting hydration is desired. The ingredient also exhibits some emulsifying properties, aiding in the stabilization of oil-in-water emulsions.

Polyglycerin-40 is generally well-tolerated by most skin types and is considered non-irritating and non-sensitizing. Its effectiveness in improving skin hydration and barrier function makes it a valuable addition to products targeting dry, dehydrated, or sensitive skin conditions.
