POLYGAMMA-GLUTAMIC ACID

Description

Poly-gamma-glutamic acid (γ-PGA) is a naturally occurring biopolymer produced by various strains of Bacillus subtilis. This water-soluble, biodegradable compound has gained significant attention in the skincare industry due to its remarkable moisturizing and hydrating properties.

γ-PGA forms a protective film on the skin's surface, effectively reducing transepidermal water loss and enhancing the skin's barrier function. Its high molecular weight allows it to retain moisture up to 5,000 times its own weight, making it an exceptional humectant. This characteristic helps maintain skin hydration for extended periods, promoting a smoother, more supple complexion.

In addition to its hydrating capabilities, γ-PGA exhibits antioxidant properties, helping to neutralize free radicals and protect the skin from environmental stressors. It has also been shown to enhance the production of natural moisturizing factors (NMFs) in the skin, further improving its ability to retain moisture.

γ-PGA's biocompatibility and non-toxicity make it suitable for various skincare formulations, including serums, creams, and masks. Its unique properties contribute to improved skin texture, reduced appearance of fine lines, and overall skin health promotion.
