POLOXAMER 401
Description
Poloxamer 401, also known as Pluronic L-121, is a non-ionic surfactant and emulsifier widely used in both skincare and haircare formulations. This synthetic copolymer consists of polyethylene oxide (PEO) and polypropylene oxide (PPO) blocks, arranged in a PEO-PPO-PEO structure. Its unique molecular composition grants it excellent solubilizing properties and the ability to form stable emulsions.
In skincare, Poloxamer 401 functions as an effective thickening agent and emulsion stabilizer, contributing to the smooth texture of creams and lotions. It enhances the spreadability of formulations and aids in the even distribution of active ingredients across the skin's surface. This ingredient also demonstrates mild cleansing properties, making it suitable for use in gentle facial cleansers and makeup removers.
For haircare applications, Poloxamer 401 acts as a conditioning agent, helping to reduce static and improve the manageability of hair. It can also assist in the formation of clear shampoos and aid in the solubilization of other ingredients, such as fragrances and essential oils. Due to its low toxicity and skin-friendly nature, Poloxamer 401 is considered safe for use in a wide range of personal care products.
