POLOXAMER 251

Description

Poloxamer 251 is a versatile synthetic copolymer belonging to the poloxamer family, widely used in pharmaceutical and cosmetic formulations. This non-ionic surfactant consists of a central hydrophobic polyoxypropylene block flanked by two hydrophilic polyoxyethylene chains. Its unique structure enables Poloxamer 251 to function as an effective emulsifier, solubilizer, and stabilizer in various skincare and personal care products.

With a lower molecular weight compared to some other poloxamers, Poloxamer 251 exhibits excellent wetting and spreading properties. It helps improve the dispersion of active ingredients and enhances their penetration into the skin. This ingredient is particularly valuable in formulations requiring a smooth, non-greasy feel, such as lotions, creams, and gels.

Poloxamer 251 also demonstrates temperature-sensitive gelation properties, making it useful in thermo-responsive drug delivery systems. Its ability to form micelles in aqueous solutions contributes to its solubilizing capacity for poorly water-soluble compounds. In skincare, this property can be leveraged to improve the bioavailability of active ingredients.

Safety studies have shown Poloxamer 251 to be well-tolerated, with minimal potential for skin irritation or sensitization, making it suitable for a wide range of skincare applications.
