POLOXAMER 237
Description
Poloxamer 237 is a versatile synthetic copolymer widely used in skincare and cosmetic formulations. This non-ionic surfactant belongs to the family of poloxamers, which are known for their excellent solubilizing and emulsifying properties. Poloxamer 237 consists of a central hydrophobic chain of polyoxypropylene flanked by two hydrophilic chains of polyoxyethylene.
In skincare applications, Poloxamer 237 functions as an effective emulsifier, helping to stabilize oil-in-water emulsions and create smooth, easily spreadable products. It also acts as a solubilizer, enhancing the dissolution of poorly water-soluble ingredients. This property makes it particularly useful in formulations containing active ingredients that require improved bioavailability.
Poloxamer 237 exhibits thermo-reversible gelation, transitioning from a liquid to a gel state as temperature increases. This characteristic is advantageous in developing temperature-responsive skincare products. Additionally, it demonstrates mild cleansing properties and can help reduce the irritation potential of other surfactants in a formulation.
When used in appropriate concentrations, Poloxamer 237 is generally well-tolerated by most skin types and contributes to improved texture and stability of skincare products.
