POLOXAMER 185

Description

Poloxamer 185 is a versatile synthetic copolymer widely used in skincare and personal care formulations. This non-ionic surfactant belongs to the family of poloxamers, also known as Pluronics. Its chemical structure consists of a central hydrophobic block of polypropylene oxide flanked by two hydrophilic blocks of polyethylene oxide.

In skincare products, Poloxamer 185 functions as an emulsifier, solubilizer, and stabilizer. It helps create stable emulsions by reducing interfacial tension between oil and water phases, ensuring a smooth and consistent product texture. This ingredient also enhances the solubility of various active ingredients, improving their bioavailability and efficacy.

Poloxamer 185 exhibits excellent spreading properties, allowing for even distribution of formulations on the skin. It can act as a mild cleansing agent and has been shown to have some moisturizing effects. Additionally, this polymer may help improve the percutaneous absorption of certain active ingredients, potentially enhancing their effectiveness.

Due to its low toxicity and minimal skin irritation potential, Poloxamer 185 is considered safe for use in a wide range of skincare applications, including creams, lotions, gels, and cleansers.
