Description

Poloxamer 184 is a versatile synthetic polymer widely used in skincare and cosmetic formulations. This non-ionic surfactant belongs to the family of poloxamers, also known as Pluronics. Its structure consists of a central hydrophobic block of polypropylene oxide flanked by two hydrophilic blocks of polyethylene oxide.

In skincare products, Poloxamer 184 functions primarily as an emulsifier and solubilizer. It helps create stable emulsions by reducing interfacial tension between oil and water phases, ensuring uniform distribution of active ingredients. This property makes it particularly useful in formulating cleansers, moisturizers, and serums.

Poloxamer 184 exhibits excellent wetting and spreading capabilities, enhancing the product's ability to distribute evenly on the skin. It also acts as a mild surfactant, aiding in the gentle removal of dirt and oil without overly stripping the skin's natural barrier.

The ingredient's low molecular weight allows for easy absorption, making it suitable for leave-on products.
