POLOXAMER 182

Description

Poloxamer 182 is a versatile synthetic copolymer widely used in skincare and cosmetic formulations. This non-ionic surfactant belongs to the family of poloxamers, also known as Pluronics. Its chemical structure consists of a central hydrophobic chain of polyoxypropylene flanked by two hydrophilic chains of polyoxyethylene.

In skincare products, Poloxamer 182 functions as an emulsifier, solubilizer, and stabilizer. It helps to create stable emulsions by reducing surface tension between oil and water phases, allowing for better ingredient dispersion and improved product texture. This ingredient also enhances the solubility of poorly water-soluble actives, increasing their bioavailability and efficacy.

Poloxamer 182 exhibits excellent wetting properties, facilitating the spread of formulations on the skin. It can form temperature-responsive gels, making it useful in products that require controlled release of active ingredients. Additionally, this polymer has been shown to possess mild cleansing properties without causing significant skin irritation.

Due to its low toxicity and compatibility with various ingredients, Poloxamer 182 is found in a wide range of skincare products, including cleansers, moisturizers, and topical medications.
