Description

Piroctone olamine is a potent antifungal and antimicrobial agent widely used in skincare and haircare formulations. This synthetic compound, also known as octopirox, belongs to the hydroxamic acid family and functions as a zinc pyrithione alternative. Its primary action involves disrupting the cell membranes of microorganisms, effectively combating dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis, and other fungal skin conditions.

In skincare, piroctone olamine demonstrates efficacy against Malassezia furfur, a yeast-like fungus associated with various skin issues. It helps regulate sebum production, reducing oiliness and the occurrence of acne. The ingredient's anti-inflammatory properties further contribute to soothing irritated skin.

Typically used in concentrations between 0.5% to 1%, piroctone olamine is well-tolerated by most skin types.
