PHYTANTRIOL

Description

Phytantriol, also known as 3,7,11,15-tetramethyl-1,2,3-hexadecanetriol, is a versatile organic compound widely used in skincare and cosmetic formulations. This synthetic ingredient is derived from plant sources and belongs to the family of branched-chain aliphatic alcohols. Phytantriol's molecular structure consists of three hydroxyl groups, which contribute to its excellent moisturizing and emollient properties.

In skincare applications, phytantriol functions as a skin conditioning agent and humectant, helping to attract and retain moisture within the epidermis. It forms a protective barrier on the skin's surface, reducing transepidermal water loss and enhancing skin hydration. Phytantriol also exhibits skin penetration-enhancing properties, potentially improving the efficacy of other active ingredients in a formulation.

Research suggests that phytantriol may have antioxidant properties, helping to protect the skin from environmental stressors and free radical damage. It is commonly incorporated into various skincare products, including moisturizers, serums, and hair care formulations. Phytantriol is generally well-tolerated by most skin types and is considered safe for use in cosmetic products at concentrations typically ranging from 0.1% to 5%.
