PHOSPHATIDYLGLYCEROL

Description

Phosphatidylglycerol (PG) is a vital phospholipid found naturally in cell membranes, particularly in plants and microorganisms. In skincare and haircare formulations, PG serves as an effective emollient and moisturizing agent. Its unique molecular structure, consisting of a glycerol backbone attached to two fatty acid chains and a phosphate group, allows it to form stable bilayers that mimic the skin's natural lipid barrier.

PG exhibits excellent skin compatibility and helps to restore and maintain the skin's moisture balance. It aids in reducing transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and improving skin hydration, making it particularly beneficial for dry and sensitive skin types. In haircare products, PG can help to smooth the hair cuticle, enhancing shine and manageability.

This ingredient also possesses mild antimicrobial properties, which can contribute to the preservation of formulations. PG's ability to enhance the penetration of other active ingredients makes it a valuable addition to various skincare and haircare products. It is often used in concentrations ranging from 0.1% to 2%, depending on the specific formulation and desired effects.
