PERLITE
Description
Perlite is a naturally occurring volcanic glass that has been processed into a lightweight, porous material widely used in skincare formulations. This versatile ingredient is derived from volcanic rock that expands when rapidly heated, creating a multifunctional component for various cosmetic applications.
In skincare products, perlite serves as an effective exfoliant, gently removing dead skin cells and impurities without causing excessive irritation. Its porous structure allows it to absorb excess oil and sebum, making it particularly beneficial for oily and combination skin types. Perlite also functions as a texturizing agent, enhancing the feel and application of creams, lotions, and masks.
The mineral composition of perlite, rich in silica, contributes to its mild mattifying effect, helping to reduce shine and create a smooth appearance on the skin. Its light-reflecting properties can subtly blur imperfections, making it a valuable ingredient in primers and foundations. Additionally, perlite's ability to retain and slowly release moisture can aid in maintaining skin hydration, while its inert nature makes it suitable for sensitive skin formulations.
