PEI-30
Description
PEI-30, or Polyethylenimine-30, is a synthetic polymer widely used in haircare formulations for its versatile properties. This cationic compound is known for its ability to form films and its high affinity for negatively charged surfaces, making it particularly effective in hair conditioning products.
PEI-30 functions as a potent conditioning agent, helping to detangle hair and reduce static electricity. It forms a protective layer on the hair shaft, improving combability and manageability while adding shine. The ingredient's film-forming properties also contribute to increased hair volume and body.
In shampoos and conditioners, PEI-30 acts as a delivery system for other active ingredients, enhancing their adherence to the hair and scalp. It can improve the deposition of anti-dandruff agents, color-protecting compounds, and other beneficial ingredients.
While effective, PEI-30 should be used judiciously in formulations due to its high cationic charge. Excessive use may lead to build-up on the hair, potentially causing heaviness or dullness. Formulators typically balance PEI-30 with other conditioning agents to achieve optimal results without compromising hair health or appearance.
