PEI-1400
Description
PEI-1400, or Polyethylenimine-1400, is a versatile synthetic polymer with significant applications in hair care formulations. This high molecular weight compound is known for its cationic nature, which allows it to effectively bind to negatively charged hair surfaces. PEI-1400 acts as a potent film-forming agent, creating a protective layer on hair strands that enhances shine, reduces frizz, and improves manageability.
In hair care products, PEI-1400 serves multiple functions. It acts as a conditioning agent, helping to detangle hair and improve its overall texture. The polymer's ability to form a thin, uniform film on the hair surface contributes to increased smoothness and a reduction in static electricity. Additionally, PEI-1400 can enhance the deposition of other beneficial ingredients onto the hair shaft, improving the efficacy of various hair treatments.
Due to its high molecular weight, PEI-1400 remains on the hair's surface without penetrating the cuticle, making it suitable for leave-in treatments and styling products. However, formulators should be mindful of potential buildup with prolonged use and consider incorporating clarifying treatments in hair care regimens that include PEI-1400-based products.
