PEI-1000

Description

PEI-1000, or Polyethylenimine-1000, is a versatile synthetic polymer with significant applications in haircare formulations. This high molecular weight compound is characterized by its cationic nature, which enables it to form strong electrostatic bonds with negatively charged hair surfaces. PEI-1000 acts as an effective conditioning agent, enhancing hair manageability, reducing static electricity, and improving overall texture.

In haircare products, PEI-1000 functions as a film-forming agent, creating a protective layer on the hair shaft that helps to seal the cuticle and lock in moisture. This property is particularly beneficial for damaged or chemically treated hair, as it aids in reducing frizz and enhancing shine. Additionally, PEI-1000 exhibits excellent substantivity, meaning it remains on the hair even after rinsing, providing long-lasting conditioning effects.

The polymer's high charge density also makes it an effective ingredient in leave-in treatments and styling products, where it can help to improve hair strength and resilience. However, formulators must carefully consider the concentration of PEI-1000 in products, as excessive amounts may lead to build-up or a heavy feel on the hair.
