PEG-3 SORBITAN OLEATE

Description

PEG-3 Sorbitan Oleate is a versatile emulsifier and surfactant commonly used in skincare and cosmetic formulations. This synthetic compound is derived from the esterification of oleic acid with sorbitol, followed by ethoxylation. Its structure consists of a hydrophilic polyethylene glycol (PEG) chain attached to a lipophilic sorbitan oleate molecule, giving it excellent emulsifying properties.

In skincare products, PEG-3 Sorbitan Oleate functions primarily as an emulsifier, helping to stabilize oil-in-water emulsions and create smooth, uniform textures. It also acts as a mild surfactant, aiding in the dispersion of pigments and other ingredients throughout the formulation. This ingredient is particularly effective in creating lightweight, non-greasy textures, making it suitable for a wide range of skincare products, including lotions, creams, and serums.

PEG-3 Sorbitan Oleate is generally well-tolerated by most skin types and is considered safe for use in cosmetic formulations. Its low molecular weight allows for easy incorporation into various product bases, contributing to improved stability and shelf life. While it is synthetic, it is biodegradable and poses minimal environmental concern.
