PEG-25 PABA

Description

PEG-25 PABA is a synthetic compound formed by the ethoxylation of para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA). It functions as a water-soluble UV filter and antioxidant in skincare and cosmetic formulations. This ingredient combines the UV-absorbing properties of PABA with the increased solubility and compatibility provided by polyethylene glycol (PEG) chains.

As a UV filter, PEG-25 PABA primarily protects against UVB radiation, helping to prevent sunburn and DNA damage. Its water-soluble nature allows for easy incorporation into various aqueous-based products, including sunscreens, moisturizers, and foundations. The PEG modification also reduces the potential for allergic reactions associated with traditional PABA.

The antioxidant properties of PEG-25 PABA contribute to its ability to neutralize free radicals, potentially offering additional protection against oxidative stress and premature skin aging. However, its efficacy as an antioxidant is generally considered moderate compared to other dedicated antioxidant ingredients.

When formulating with PEG-25 PABA, it's important to consider its optimal pH range and potential interactions with other ingredients. While generally well-tolerated, some individuals may experience sensitivity, particularly those with known PABA allergies.
