PEG-1M

Description

PEG-1M, also known as Polyethylene Glycol 1000000, is a high molecular weight polymer used extensively in skincare and cosmetic formulations. This versatile ingredient functions primarily as a thickening agent and viscosity modifier, imparting a luxurious texture to products while enhancing their stability and shelf life.

In skincare applications, PEG-1M forms a protective film on the skin's surface, helping to reduce transepidermal water loss and maintain hydration. Its large molecular size prevents penetration into the skin, making it an ideal choice for creating non-occlusive, breathable barriers. This property is particularly beneficial in leave-on products such as moisturizers, serums, and sunscreens.

PEG-1M also exhibits emulsion stabilizing properties, allowing for the creation of stable water-in-oil and oil-in-water formulations. Its compatibility with a wide range of ingredients makes it a valuable component in complex skincare systems. Additionally, PEG-1M can act as a solubilizer, helping to incorporate oil-soluble ingredients into water-based formulations.

While generally considered safe for topical use, individuals with sensitive skin should perform patch tests before incorporating products containing PEG-1M into their skincare routine.
