PANCREATIN

Description

Pancreatin is a potent enzyme complex derived from the pancreas of animals, primarily pigs. This bioactive ingredient consists of a blend of digestive enzymes, including amylase, lipase, and protease. In skincare and haircare formulations, pancreatin offers unique benefits due to its proteolytic and lipolytic properties.

When applied topically, pancreatin acts as a gentle exfoliant, breaking down proteins and lipids on the skin's surface. This enzymatic action helps remove dead skin cells, unclog pores, and improve skin texture. In haircare, pancreatin can help cleanse the scalp by dissolving excess sebum and protein buildup.

Pancreatin's protein-digesting abilities make it valuable in products designed to reduce the appearance of scars and promote wound healing. It may also aid in the treatment of keratosis pilaris by softening keratin plugs in hair follicles.

Formulations containing pancreatin typically require careful pH balancing to maintain enzyme stability. It is often combined with other ingredients like hyaluronic acid or niacinamide to enhance its efficacy and provide additional skincare benefits. While generally well-tolerated, pancreatin may cause sensitivity in some individuals, particularly those with known allergies to porcine products.
